FEAR AND HOPE IN WEST GERMANY is a play consisting of nineteen smaller dramas with one to three characters. These dramas are performed simultaneously in nine apartments of a building that symbolizes the Federal Republic of Germany from the year 1982. However, the setting resembles today's European countries or their television reality shows.
During 75 minutes, we observe the lives of pensioners, terrorists, writers, bank directors, police officers, the unemployed, supermarket cashiers, actresses, Hungarian emigrants, photographers, models, Turkish refugees. They all lead their European lives on stage according to the Aristotelian idea of unity of place, time, and action. The play is staged in the style of Ristić's simultaneous play from 1974, where everyone seems to be just waiting to leap from the windows.
