THE GREAT FALL
Presentation of the play by Peter Handke
THE GREAT FALL is the sixth in a total of seven works that KPGT has presented to the audience over the last 25 years. Previously, his plays such as KASPAR, THE HORROR OF EMPTINESS, WINTER JOURNEY TO THE RIVERS DANUBE, SAVA, DRINA, AND MORAVA, THE RIDE ACROSS LAKE CONSTANCE, INSULTING THE AUDIENCE, and DON JUAN have been performed. Handke, similar in stature to the likes of Shakespeare, Molière, Dušan Jovanović, Heiner Müller, and Danilo Kiš, has been one of the most frequently performed by KPGT over the years.
THE GREAT FALL is a novel that deals with the theme of the Nobel Prize, written before Peter Handke became a laureate in 2019. The story centers on an "old actor" who contemplates whether to accept a lifetime achievement award. His journey through nature and urban landscapes depicts a Handkean world full of people, sounds, and emotions, reflecting the state of society through a personal lens.
This performance is simultaneously a drama, ballet, and rave, where performers dance to the rhythms of nature and urban chaos. Hundreds of passersby through techno-forests and meadows disappear to the rhythm of the metropolis.
