This time we will watch the film "The Wedding" (2021) by Polish director Wojciech Smarzowski.
Screening hosted by:
Maria Saprykina, screenwriter and director.
Maria first saw this film at the Tallinn Film Festival in 2021, where it won awards for Best Screenplay and Best Direction and made the entire hall cry.
The film does indeed tell the story of a wedding, a modern Polish wedding. But the narrative is frequently interrupted by the grandfather’s memories of the beginning of World War II, when from one side, the Germans entered Poland, and from the other - the USSR. The film very delicately and carefully portrays both historical events and modern European society.
As is customary, before the screening begins, Maria will tell a bit about the film, and afterwards, we will discuss it.
