Lecture on Serbian Memes: History and Linguistics

The lecture that we personally were very much looking forward to:

"What Dživdžan hides: exploring Serbia through memes."

“For a linguist, memes are Polaroid snapshots of the language. From them, we often learn new words and expressions that are relevant here and now. We rejoice when we immediately understand a meme and are upset if the play on words is beyond us. We retell each other new words and untranslatable jokes. In the lecture, we will take a closer look at the linguistic aspect of memes, try to see something new even in familiar words, and find our own answer to the question: why is the Serbian language so often understandable to us and yet — so often incomprehensible?”
