Слово «ностальгия» происходит от двух греческих слов: nóstos — возвращение и álgos — боль. Дело не только в боли от разлуки, но и в невозможности возвращения. Вечный вопрос: Ностальгия – это про время или про место? Само время невидимо. Мы видим только его отраженный свет. Размышляя на эту тему, я понял, что помню не столько события, сколько пространства, в которых они происходили. Стоило восстановить расположение мебели, узор обоев или свет из окна — и вместе с ними возвращались чувства.

В этой серии собраны девять интерьеров, через которые протекала моя жизнь. Большинство из них восстановлены по памяти. Первый — копия рисунка, который когда-то сделал мой отец. Последний — по фотографии комнаты, в которую я уже никогда не вернусь. Говорят: надо отгоревать утрату, закрыть гештальт, запереть дверь, оставить в прошлом…

The word “nostalgia” comes from two Greek words: nóstos — return, and álgos — pain. It is not only about the pain of separation, but also about the impossibility of returning. The eternal question is: Is nostalgia about time or about place? Time itself is invisible. We see only its reflected light.

Thinking about this, I realized that I remember not so much the events themselves as the spaces in which they took place. All it took was to reconstruct the arrangement of the furniture, the pattern of the wallpaper, or the light coming through the window — and the feelings returned with them.

This series brings together nine interiors through which my life has flowed. Most of them were reconstructed from memory. The first is a copy of a drawing my father once made. The last is based on a photograph of a room I will never return to. They say you have to grieve a loss, find closure, lock the door, leave it in the past…
