The play 'Heart of a Dog'

"Heart of a Dog" is a play based on one of the few works from the Soviet period that has become a classic and transcended the bounds of its time. This story is reinterpreted by each succeeding generation. Nowadays, Mikhail Bulgakov's story finds new relevance as the Russian intelligentsia once again loses its country to new powers - thus it is time for a theatrical reprise of Bulgakov's text. The play explores why early 20th-century history repeats itself using methods of new media, modern theatrical technologies, and video design. The production is created by an international team, including a British director and a French stage designer, with the participation of Russian actors living in different countries, aimed at Russian-speaking audiences worldwide. The story of 1920s Moscow stretches beyond Russia, where it was written, to visit the places where Bulgakov's contemporary audience resides. The performers in this play include Alexander Feklistov, Artur Smolyaninov, Semen Steinberg, Grigory Sluzhitel, Sasha Alexis, Irina Soboleva, and it is directed by Konstantin Kamensky, with artistic guidance by Irina VUS."
