Gvozdačke Stene - Western Serbia. Medium Difficulty Trekking
Gvozdačke Stene (Iron Rocks) is the name of a karst mountain in western Serbia on the road between Valjevo and Bajina Bašta, belonging to the Povlen-Maljen mountain range (we have routes everywhere there 😃)
Here, there are many landscapes that captivate at first sight 😍
Gvozdačke Stene consists of: Svilen Wall (1231 meters), Sokolina (1225 meters), Kurtinjača (1212 meters), Prekobrodo (1211 meters), Crvena Wall (1196 meters), and Velika Wall (1186 meters).
The rocks are positioned so that in western Serbia they are visible from almost all surrounding mountains. And from their peaks, there is a view of Durmitor and the mountains of eastern Bosnia 🏔⛰
Gvozdačke Stene is named after the village of Gvozdac, which is located on the southern slopes of the mountain, facing the Drina River and rising above the Tara Mountain. Under the mountain itself, deep within, the Iron Spring - Gvozdačke Vrelo gushes, later forming the Iron River.
The route we will take is about 15 km long with an elevation difference of 500 meters. Since we start at an altitude of 1100 m, the ascents are quite easy. Half of the trail is straight, and the other half is a ridge of ironstone rocks with gentle ascents.
